
Dr. Brianna Volkmann (she/her) is a dynamic performer and avid music educator originally from Rochester, New York.
As an educator, Brianna is currently the Visiting Assistant Professor of Horn at Virginia Tech. She previously served as the Adjunct Professor of Horn at Missouri Western State University, and as a regular sectional coach and clinician in public schools around the Kansas City metro area. She has presented masterclasses at universities throughout the Midwest, and has appeared as a lecturer and contributing artist at the International Horn Society Symposium, the Mid-South Horn Workshop, the SHE: Festival of Women in Music, and the International Women’s Brass Conference Mentorship Program.
As an orchestral performer, Brianna is currently the acting fourth hornist of the Wichita Symphony. She previously served as the acting principal hornist of the Topeka Symphony during the 2025-2026 season. She has also performed frequently with the Kansas City Symphony, Omaha Symphony, Wichita Grand Opera Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony, St. Joseph Symphony, and Kansas City Civic Orchestra. She has spent her summers performing at the Ad Astra Music Festival, the Scheherazade Music Festival, and the Eastern Music Festival, among others.
As a chamber musician, Brianna is a founding member of the State Line Horn Duo, a chamber ensemble dedicated to enriching local music communities and expanding the horn chamber music repertoire. She has also performed with the Horns of the Heartland, the newEar Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, and the Missouri Western State University Brass Quintet. Additionally, she served three years as the hornist of Plaza Winds, the graduate fellowship woodwind quintet at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, where she completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Horn Performance.
Brianna earned her prior horn performance degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (Master of Music) and the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory (Bachelor of Music). Her primary teachers include Alberto Suarez, Denise Tryon, Martin Hackleman, Jeff Nelsen, Dale Clevenger, Richard Seraphinoff, and Jesse McCormick.
